About The Packaging Conference
This annual event has been guided by its defining mission: “where business opportunities and technology meet". The Packaging Conference is material neutral and focuses on presentations, exhibitions, and attendees representing all forms of packaging, equipment, technology, processes and packaging materials.
Since 2001, PETnology has been organizing international PETnology conferences focussing on technology and market relevant topics in Europe and Asia. Its primary mission has been to offer a platform for the PET packaging industry that reflects a simple motto:
The first annual PETnology Americas conference was held on the 25th and 26th of June in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It welcomed more than 80 industry experts, hosting speakers from companies such as: Agr, Amcor, Corvaglia, D.D. Cornell Associates, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Indorama, Intravis, KHS, Krones, Micro Interface Design, Milacron, Netstal, Polaritek, PTI, REPI, SBAcci, and Ultra System.
The technology oriented conference found its perfect location at the Georgia Tech University Global Learning Center. Organized by PETnology and The Packaging Conference it offered key industry presentations over one and a half days.
Topics on the first conference day were focused on digitization, processes, quality and optimization. On the second day the overall focus shifted to the highly topical subject of demand and supply of raw material in times of dwindling resources. While John Maddox from SBAcci made it clear that the PET industry needs strong survival tactics for living until 2020 with regards to material supply, D.D. Cornell drew attention to the Circular Economy and the risk of losing achievements through 'virtue-signaling' by global players and brand-owners.
Further presentations showed that the industry is aware of its several risks and has to continuously remind itself to identify and use the opportunities. Jon Larson from Krones described the PET bottle situation as being at a crossroad and called for a clear strategy: action and tactic changes. Anna Horecica-Csiki from SIPA explained how preform production meets the requirements of Circular Economy. Is eCommerce about to reset packaging to zero? Thierry Fabozzi from PTI presented interesting solutions.
The agenda was successfully completed by technology-oriented presentations on materials and color additives, closures, preform and bottle production, barrier and aseptic.
Both organizers as well as the participants rated the engagement during the different discussions to be very positive. Also the networking hotspots - the exhibition and the evening reception - thrived on lively discussion and debate.
The participants were unanimously satisfied with the selection and orientation of the topics and the overall event organization.
PETnology Americas 2019 will take place in June 2019.
